Evesham Match Report

So Town headed to the small town in Worcestershire to play Evesham United in the first pre season game.

Evesham’s new stadium is very smart and the people were very friendly.

Teams and Officials

EVESHAM: Thomas, Connor, Mazuto, Rhodes, Eze, Ardallany, MacKenzie, Hicks, Palmer, Wellings, Osborne. Subs: Agbor, Tulloch, Wood, Corbett, P. Jones, J. Jones, Downing.

TOWN: Anyon, Grandison, Goldson, Jones (Purdie 46), Jacobson, Wright (Turner 84), Summerfield (Wildig 46), Hall (Woods 73), Parry (Taylor 46), Doble (Bradshaw 46), Morgan (Gornell 46).

Referee: Derek Eaton (Tewkesbury)

First Half

The first half was a very tight encounter with neither team managing to get the ball and pass it around. It took about half an hour for Salop to be able to create a good opening.

It came from a string of passes and then Joe Jacobson whipped in the ball and there was Marv to head over.

That was really the only talking point in a first half where town saw a lot of the ball.

Second Half

Town made five changes;
Tom Bradshaw and Terry Gornell coming on for Marvin Morgan and Ryan Doble.
Rob Purdie and Jon Taylor coming on for Paul Parry and Darren Evans.
Aaron Wildig came on for Luke Summerfield.

Also Jermaine Grandison played as centre back in the second half to allow Purdie to play right back.

The second half so a very attacking minded salop side with both Bradshaw and Gornell going close.

Taylor had a fierce shot from 25 yards out go straight at the keeper.

Joe Jacobson hit the bar from a direct free kick and was also unlucky with a cross come shot going just over.

Ryan Woods came on for Asa Hall and got going straight away picking out some lovely passes and also coming very close to scoring from the same sort of range as Taylor.

The end of the match loomed and it looked like neither side was going to get a goal and town just got into the mode where they thought walking it in was the best way.

With 6 minutes to go Elliot Turner came on to replace Mark Wright on the left wing leaving Chris Weale the only player not to be used.

As the last few minutes went on it was Evesham who came very close to sneaking a late winner when Simeon Tulloch fired just wide with only Anyon to beat.

The attendance was a very questionable 265.

Overall Verdict

It was a great day and nice to have some football to watch again and the Evesham folks were very pleasant so much so Bizzy managed to get very merry whilst the game was going on.

But as Turner said to us after the game it was good to just get the cobwebs off the players and start gelling them in against what was a very tough Evesham side.

We would like to thank all at Evesham United for their great hospitality and all the best for their season in their push to get promotion!
