Yeovil make their first visit to the Meadow since Salop have moved from the old Gay Meadow. Yeovil did get off to a flying start but a poor September which resulted in The Glovers losing 5 in a row meant they soon lost track of the top and plummeted towards the relegation zone.
A win on Saturday against a struggling Bury side means they have been lifted to 14th. But even though they have struggled to find points in the last month, they haven’t been short of goals failing to score only 3 times so far this season.
As for Salop it seems to be the same story again. We need to find a win to move away from the relegation places and with Marvin Morgan banned for 2 games it will be a good time for one of the other strikers to prove they should be kept in the team.
Also with Turner having only Marvin unavailable, we believe there may be a few changes to try and get back to winning ways.
We are going to focus on today’s opponents Yeovil Town. Here are some interesting things you might want to know before tonight.
Edward Upson has 6 assists to his name and 2 goals so far this season which makes him the player to watch out for. He is not afraid to shoot neither having the most amount of shots in the team and has 19 shots so far with 9 of them being on target.
Edward Upson aslo has to take the accolade as Yeovil’s bad boy as he has already picked up 1 red card 4 yellows whilst conceding 21 fouls.
Gary Johnson is currently in his second stint at Yeovil Town after leaving the Glovers in 2005 to join Bristol City. He first managed Newmarket Town back in 1986. He then went to manage Cambridge United in 1992 before moving to Kettering Town in 95. When he was released from his duties he found himself out of a job for 2 years until Latvia approached him in 1999. But after 2 years of frustrating results he was sacked with the final straw being a 1-1 draw against Lichtenstein. But what followed was the tipping point for the Latvian authorities.
In his post match interview he attacked a journalist and Latvian officials were left with no option other than sacking Johnson.
In 2002, Johnson took charge of then non league Yeovil Town. In his first year The Golvers won the FA Trophy at Villa Park after beating Stevenage 2-0 and he also led Yeovil to third in the Conference.
The following season he led Yeovil to the Conference Championship with a record 17 point lead which meant Yeovil would be playing in Division 3. In their first season in Division 3 (League 2), Yeovil were pipped to the play offs by goal difference. But the next season the won the championship and went into Division 2 (League 1) where they have remained ever since.
Chirs Weale played a big part in Johnson’s side in his first stint so Weale should get a good reception.
In 2005 Johnson went to Bristol City where his greatest achievement was leading Bristol City to the play-off final, only for Hull City to beat them 1-0. He then went on to Peterbrough for a year but both manager and chairman couldn’t agree future policies so he soon left to join Northampton. After saving Northampton he left by mutual agreement and went to join Yeovil for a second time.
